The technical director of Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Bala Muhammed has disclosed that the recent IHF License D Coaching Course organised by the sport’s governing body was aimed at taking the country to the level of its current ‘global phenomenon.’
Sports247 gathered that 14 coaches were certified by the HFN after the course, which was organised in liaison with the International Handball Federation (IHF) and Confederation of African Handball (CAHB).

While harping on the need for the newly certified coaches to ensure that they take what they have learnt back to grassroots areas in their various states, Muhammed also butressed the need for them to all move in tandem with best global practices.
Muhammed pointed out, “We have to be part of the global aspect of doing things in this sport and organising top grade tournaments.
“So, we believe they will have to go back and what they have been taught is what they will now do at their different locations.
“That is because the major problem in sports is at the grassroots. If you don’t give them the basics, they can’t get it right. They may have the talent, but they won’t be able to do it the right way.”
The HFN’s technical buff concluded by revealing that everyone at the federation is working hard to ensure that Nigeria is not left behind in the ever evolving and expanding world of modern-day handball.
“This is a global phenomenon, and we are trying to come up with a model that will transcend the whole federation and help to develop the country,” Muhammed revealed.
