The vice-president of Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Otunba Sylvester Ikuejamoye has promised that the officials will ensure fairness and integrity during this year’s age-grade competition in Umuahia, Abia State, Sports247 reports.
Ikuejamoye further assured that the competition, which is officially tagged 2026 National U-12 & U-15 Handball Championship will live up to its status as a developmental platform for nurturing young talents.
The competition, which began on Wednesday in the sports hall of Umuahia Townshiip Stadium, was preceded by a meeting of technical officials and then screening of players, which Ikuejamoye said was to uphold HFN’s integrity.
While also pointing out that the championship will help the HFN in the process of building a formidable national cadet team, Ikuejamoye reiterated the federation’s zero-tolerance for indiscipline and rule violations.
Ikuejamoye added while speaking on behalf of HFN president, Jibril Ojih Saidu (FNIQS) that compliance with regulations is essential to achieving a high-quality and credible championship.
He further affirmed that players who have previously featured in Division One or Ardova Handball Premier League are ineligible to participate in the competition being staged in collaboration with Abia State Government.
“We are committed to fairness and integrity, even if it means disqualifying teams that fail to meet the criteria,” Ikuejamoye assured, while calling on all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the federation during and after the competition.
