The Group A clash, played on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, saw the hosts assert their continental pedigree from the opening whistle.
Egypt raced into a commanding lead, going into the break with a 24–10 advantage, and never eased off as Nigeria struggled to cope with the North Africans’ pace, organisation, and clinical finishing.
Egypt’s superiority was evident across all departments, with their fast breaks, solid defensive structure, and efficient goalkeeping overwhelming a Nigerian side that found it difficult to sustain momentum.
By full time, the scoreline reflected the gulf in quality between the two teams.
The emphatic victory ensured Egypt finished top of Group A with a perfect record of three wins from three matches, amassing six points and a goal difference of 131:78.
Algeria finished second despite two defeats, while Nigeria placed third with one win and two losses, ending their campaign with 71 goals scored and 98 conceded.
For Nigeria, the heavy defeat means the Golden Arrows will have to seek the classification games 5-8 route to the IHF World Championship as they are out of the championship race.
