Sports247 gathered that, although Ogunneye’s days at Newport began on a rosy note, things turned around to negative angles following the exit of the coach who bought him.

Consequently, Ogunneye’s loan deal with Newport was cut short and he headed back to Old Trafffird in search of a change of fortune, with high hope of getting a career revival in the tip-flight.

Fortunately for Ogunneye, his return to United coincided with the arrival of club legend, Michael Carrick as new head coach, and the gaffer allowed the Nigerian-born defender to join the main squad in training on Friday.

Ogunneye was, therefore, part of The Red Devils’ build-up towards Saturday’s derby against Manchester City, which United won 2-0 at Old Trafford, thereby raising hope of a timely positive return ‘home’ for Ogunneye.

A report by UK’s Sun Sports revealed, “The defender was a regular under David Hughes at Newport. But, after Hughes was replaced by Christian Fuchs, Ogunneye found himself sidelined.

“He has now been recalled, with a new loan likely this month, as his current deal with United expires in June. At Newport, he made 21 appearances across all competitions.”
