GT Bank Masters Cup: Okwudili scored Season 9 first hattrick

A star was born inside the pitch of Anwarul Islam Model College, Agege this afternoon as Okwudili Honour of Federal Government College Ijanikin, scored the first hattrick in the ongoing GT Bank Masters Cup, season 9.

It was the third game of the day, between FGC Ijanikin and AUD Isolo.

The boys from Isolo drew the first blood through Balogun Hafees when he scored in the 17th minute of play to put his school ahead.

Okwudili restored parity in the 26th minute of play when he took on three defenders to calmly slot the ball into the net, to end the first half one goal apiece.

Exactly 12 minutes into the second half, Okwudili fired FGC into the lead from a goalmouth scramble.

When we all thought we have seen the best of this budding star, he took the game beyond the reach of the lads from Isolo when he outran 2 defenders to slot home his 3rd goal.

Odunuga Quadri reduced the tally when he scored the second goal for AUD boys, but it was not enough to rescue any point from FGC lads who went back to Ijanikin with the whole of the available 3 points.

In a post match interview with Awijare News Correspondent, Okwudili said, “I did not play well in our first game and the coach benched me in the second game. Fortunately, I scored 3 goals in our last training before this match and the coach decided to use me as a striker.

Okwudili favourite player is Christian Ronaldo while Austin Okocha is his best Nigerian player. ” though I was not born when he was playing, I have watched the footage of his games and he’s my best Nigerian player.”

Okwudili who thinks his school can go far in the competition wishes to study Accounting in the University as he’s currently in Art Class but also wishes to be a professional player.

In other matches at the same venue, to goals from Egaji Emmanuel and Chukwu Christian was all FCTC Yaba needed to send Apostolic Church College boys to Ketu empty handed.

In the female game, AUD Isolo girls shared the spoil with their counterpart from FCT Yaba as the game ended one goal apiece.
