Africa’s premier club competitions roar back to life this weekend as the Group Stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup officially gets underway across the continent.
This season’s lineup is packed with elite contenders, including reigning Champions League holders Pyramids FC, record 12-time champions Al Ahly, four-time winners Espérance de Tunis, South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, and Moroccan giants RS Berkane and AS FAR. They are joined by ambitious challengers from all CAF regions.

In the Confederation Cup, former champions Zamalek and USM Alger headline a competitive field that features Wydad, CR Belouizdad, Kaizer Chiefs, Stellenbosch, Azam, ZESCO United, and exciting newcomers Nairobi United.
Opening weekend action promises fireworks. Pyramids FC welcome Rivers United in Cairo, while RS Berkane face Power Dynamos in a much-anticipated North–South showdown.
Top contenders also begin their quests with purpose:
Al Ahly host JS Kabylie as they chase a 13th continental crown.
Espérance take on Stade Malien in Tunis.
Mamelodi Sundowns face St Éloi Lupopo in Pretoria.
In the Confederation Cup, regional storylines intensify with an Egyptian derby group kicking off as Zamalek host ZESCO United, while Al Masry battle Kaizer Chiefs.
Debutants and rising clubs will also seek to make their mark, including Nairobi United away to Wydad, OC Safi travelling to Djoliba, and Maniema Union hosting Azam in an East–Central African clash.
Two matchdays will be played before the start of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025. The group stage will pause for AFCON and resume in January 2026.
