Greenbacks’ Michael Okiki Speaks on Loss to LA Knights: “We Came Fighting to the End”

Following the Greenbacks’ 36–19 loss to the unbeaten LA Knights at Gameday 7 of the Showtime Flag Football League season, team player Michael Okiki shared his thoughts in an emotional interview with Sports247. The result meant the Greenbacks missed out on a top-four finish and a spot in the playoffs.

“We felt bad. We came with the mindset of actually coming here to win,” Okiki admitted. “But it turned out to be what it was. I love the energy from my teammates and from each individual. We came fighting to the end. It’s a win for me.”

Despite the disappointment, Okiki found encouragement in the team’s effort and the journey they’ve had so far, especially as newcomers in the league. “Yeah, I mean, for the history—being the first time in the league and us clinching a playoff spot wouldn’t be bad. But I mean, we lost. We just need to go back to the drawing board and prepare for the next season coming up.”

While the Greenbacks fell short this time, their debut campaign has laid a strong foundation for future success.
