In a landmark initiative aimed at bridging the gap between education and sports in Nigeria, the Federal Government has inaugurated a joint committee to design a national framework for sports development across primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions.
At the heart of this effort is Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Grassroots Sports Development, who will serve as a key member of the committee.
The taskforce will be co-chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa, and the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko.
“This is a defining moment for grassroots sports in Nigeria,” said Adeboye, who has long championed youth development through athletics. “We’re setting the foundation to ensure that every student—whether in primary school or a university—has the opportunity to discover and nurture their sporting talent.”
The committee will also oversee the reorganization of critical student tournaments such as the Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) and the Nigeria Polytechnics Games Association (NIPOGA), positioning them as talent incubators for national and international competitions.
The move is part of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes youth empowerment, education reform, and economic development through sports.
Adeboye, also known for his role as chairman of Smart City F.C., is expected to bring his grassroots experience and practical insight to the committee’s work.
The joint effort between the NSC and the Federal Ministry of Education represents a fresh commitment to turning Nigeria’s schools into breeding grounds for future Olympians, professional athletes, and well-rounded citizens.
