Governor Obaseki To Offset Medical Bills For Attacked Sunshine Stars Team

In a gesture of empathy and support, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has pledged to cover the medical bills incurred by the Sunshine Stars team during the treatment of their Curator, who was shot by unknown assailants.

The attack occurred on Thursday, prompting the governor to express his concern and commitment to the well-being of the team.

Olympian Yusuf Alli, the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, conveyed the governor’s message to the Sunshine Stars team during a visit to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where the injured individuals were receiving medical care.

“The Governor of Edo state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, sympathizes with you. He is deeply concerned about what has happened to you people, and he is pained. He asked me to tell you that he is going to take care of your medical bills.

He sent his goodwill message to you, praying for the quick recovery of the man who was shot in the attack. He has directed me to follow up with happenings and get the bills from you,” said Yusuf Alli.

The Sunshine Stars team was attacked by a suspected armed robbery gang while travelling to Benin for an NPFL Match Day 13 fixture against Bendel Insurance FC.

The incident led to the rescheduling of the match, which was initially set for Saturday, December 9, and is now scheduled for Sunday, December 10, 2023, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin at 4 pm.
