Gov. Buni Declares 7th Edition of Zonal Youth Games Open

The Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON has today Sunday 13th August, 2023 declared the 7th Edition of National Youth Games under 15 North East Zonal Youth Teams Elimination tagged “Damaturu 2023” open at the August 27 Stadium Damaturu.

The governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali mni, said the present administration is indeed not the least conscious of the pivotal role in sporting competitions as well as promoting regional, national, and international cohesion, employment generation, friendship and advancing the image of a state or country among her peers.

Gov. Buni revealed that the state in the last edition of the national competition hosted by Kwara in 2021, Yobe State won medals in Shooting and Chess, stressing that the participating states would contest Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Cricket, Football, Handball, Hockey, and Volleyball for both males and females.

While commending the organizers as well as urging good conduct from participants and fair officiating as well as good sportsmanship from both winners and losers, he asked the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Social Development to submit their request to the office of Secretary to the State Government for attention.

On his part, the Executive Director, of Yobe Sports Council, Dr. Habu Abdulrahaman Ago said the national youth games were introduced in 2013 as a platform for young athletes from the county to showcase their skills.

Dr. Ago then appreciated the Yobe State Government for its total support to the Sports Council.
