Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets are expected to begin camping in Abuja this week as preparations intensify for the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Championship in Burkina Faso.
Head coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere will lead the training programme at the Goal Project Pitch inside the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, with players expected to battle for places in the squad for the regional tournament.
The commencement of the camp comes shortly after the Eaglets endured a difficult international tour of China, where they featured in the 2026 CFA International Youth Football Tournament in Yinchuan.
Nigeria’s youngsters endured a disappointing campaign, suffering a 3-2 defeat to Tanzania in their opening fixture before losing 4-2 to Australia.
The Eaglets ended their participation with a 1-1 draw against hosts China, finishing the tour without a victory.
While the China trip provided the team with valuable international exposure, the results and performances have raised concerns ahead of the more demanding WAFU B assignment.
Uwejamomere will now have the opportunity to address the team’s shortcomings, particularly their tactical organisation, defensive stability and overall pattern of play, as preparations get underway in Abuja.
The 2026 WAFU B U-17 Championship is scheduled to take place in Burkina Faso from November 16 to 29.
For the Golden Eaglets, the tournament represents more than a regional competition, with qualification for the next CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations among the major objectives.
The Abuja camp will therefore provide Uwejamomere and his technical crew with an important opportunity to assess the available talents, strengthen the team and build a more competitive side before the November tournament.
After the setbacks in China, the Golden Eaglets will be hoping that their next phase of preparations produces a much-improved performance when the real test arrives in Burkina Faso.
