Former Super Eagles’ defender, Godwin Okpara has tipped the Nigerian national team to bounce back from their recent loss to DR Congo in the 2026 World Cup qualification play-offs final.
Sports247 reports that, while describing the Eagles’ defeat as ‘something he cannot understand,’ the former Aalst of Belgium and PSG of France centre-back enthused that Nigeria’s array of stars can do better at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Okpara reasoned further, “We can bounce back. When you look at the quality of players we have, we can’t compare them with that of any other nation.
“Although our boys usually pick when and where they want to play, I am still confident that they can bounce back.”
The ex-international, who was fondly called ‘Allan Ball’ during his active days, added: “Hopefully, they’ll be ready to perform at the Nations Cup. They’ve told us that they’ll be ready and I believe they can do it.
“We have good players. When you look at the records, compared with that of other teams they play against, you’ll see that we are better.
“As for the play-offs, I really don’t know what went wrong. That’s why I keep asking myself, ‘What happened? Were they scared?’ I really don’t know.”
