Gideon Goyet Advocates Camping For Nigerian Runners

Nigerian long distance runner, Gideon Goyet has advocated a situation in which the country’s athletes would be taken to camp before they line out for any marathon in future.

After emerging the first Nigeria at the tape during the latest Lagos City Marathon, with a time of 2:30:21, Goyet believes he would have done better he he received better preparation before last Saturday’s race.

Sports247.ng reports that the Plateau State runner is now thinking big into the future, but wants the Nigerian sports authorities to help the country’s athletes reach the same level that is seen in East Africa.

Goyet stressed: “It’s all about training. If you work hard you’ll win, but if you don’t work hard you will not win.

“You cannot run well without eating healthy and being in a training camp with access to good trainers and training facilities
“I train on my own around the house but imagine if I was in a camp with access to doctors and I get whatever I need to train?

“(The East Africans) are usually in the camp with people around unlike what we have with Nigerian runners.
“We also cannot access good facilities. So running is about money (but the East Africans) train three hours daily.”
