In front of an electric crowd at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, the final lived up to expectations as two of the competition’s finest battled for supremacy in a high-intensity showdown.

With over 120 women competing in the tournament, it all came down to a gripping finale between Mogaji and Aiyenugba.

Mogaji came out firing, dominating the first set 4–1 with powerful and precise backhand shots that left her opponent struggling to respond.

However, the second set told a different story as Aiyenugba, the top player from Police College Tennis Club, Ikeja, fought back with determination despite visible fatigue.

Roared on by supporters, Aiyenugba pushed the match to a dramatic 3–3 before it was decided by a tense tiebreak. But Mogaji held her nerve, racing into an early lead and sealing the tiebreak 7–2 to clinch victory in style with a 4–1, 4–3(2) win.

Her triumph earned her a cash prize of ₦300,000, but the rewards didn’t stop there. Mogaji was also named the Most Improved Player of the tournament, adding another ₦250,000 to her earnings and taking her total winnings to an impressive ₦550,000.

Aiyenugba, who showed resilience and class throughout, was rewarded with ₦200,000 and a runner-up trophy.

The tournament also showcased emerging talent in the Junior Amazons category, where Adesewa Olaniyan and Omoyinka Ayinla dominated their doubles final with a convincing 6–1 victory.

Speaking after the event, convener Joy Obayemi revealed plans to expand the tournament into a two-day competition next year, promising even bigger participation and excitement.

With thrilling matches, rising stars, and growing recognition, the Amazons Tennis Tournament continues to cement its status as one of Africa’s premier platforms for women’s tennis.
