German Base Former Nigeria Handball Player Gives Back To Kids

It was a beehive of events at Rowe Park Sports Center, Yaba, Lagos as a lot of excited handball playing children gathered to collect sports gears.

The two in one event, which includes a donation ceremonies and novelty matches, put together by the Lagos State Handball Veteran Association alongside Lagos State Handball Association, saw kids collect jerseys, sports shoes and so much more donated by former Nigeria Handball international player, who now reside in Germany, David Sunday and his fiancee Leiya.

David, who explained that he is giving back to the society where he was discovered, feels this gesture to the kids will enable them aim to succeed in playing handball.

“I wanted give back to the kids who are in the position I was when I was in their age as I know how hard it is to fight for a better life” David said

David who also made donations of balls and other equipments to the Lagos State Handball Association, also went on to say how playing handball in Rowe Park shaped his life.

“I use to walk everyday tk Rowe Park Sport Center for about 2 hours and on some days without food just to play handball.

I did this because my dream was be a professional handball player and have a better life and my team came true a I got the opportunity to play in Europe.

I’m in Germany and I got the idea of this charity work so we directly started to go to some handball clubs in Germany and told them about our plan.

We were really surprised how many people gave us stuff they would love to give more in the future.

It was a sign for us that this will be just the beginning of giving something back”. He concluded

He also thanked the president of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) Mr. Sam Ocheho for the great work he has done to improve handball which has created the enabling environment for the sport to thrive in the country.

Chairperson of the Lagos State Handball Association Mrs Adeola Opeifa, who received the equipments on behalf of the (LAHA) and Mr. Olaniyi Oladapo, the president of the Lagos State Handball Veterans, were quite excited about the gesture and urge other stakeholders to support handball in the state and country at large.
