Geremie Gbegniho Wins Big at African Armwrestling Championship Finale

President of the Benin Armwrestling Federation, Geremie Gbegniho, enjoyed a remarkable outing at the grand finale of the African Armwrestling Championship, clinching two major individual honors.

The event, held at the Borteyman Sports Complex, saw Gbegniho recognized as both Best Coach of the Year in Africa and leader of the Best National Team of the Year, underlining his impact on the sport’s growth in Benin Republic.

Widely regarded as one of the youngest federation presidents on the continent, Gbegniho’s achievements reflect years of strategic planning and investment in athlete development. His leadership has been instrumental in elevating Benin’s status within African armwrestling.

Speaking after receiving the awards, Gbegniho expressed pride in the milestone:

“I feel happy because this is the result of hard work and planning over the years, and I am proud of the outcome.

We are preparing ahead for the future of armwrestling. That is why we invest.”

Beyond the individual accolades, Benin Republic also impressed in the overall competition, finishing second on the medals table, behind hosts Ghana, and ahead of South Africa.

The strong showing highlights the federation’s upward trajectory and growing competitiveness on the continental stage.

With sustained investment and leadership, Benin Republic appears well-positioned to remain a major force in African armwrestling in the years ahead.
