Matchday eleven of The Creative Championship saw Gbagada FC pick up yet another victory, a comfortable one over Emmydinho FC and the manager has expressed his excitement at the win.
“We needed a clean sheet and we needed to score goals because the title might be won by goal difference so we needed to up ours. The objective for today’s game was a clean sheet and at least three goals which we achieved, so it’s a good performance from the boys,” coach Olajide said to Sports247.
Coach Olajide also explained that they never underestimated their opponents coming into the game despite the flattering result. “We never underestimated them at all because in the first leg we were two goals up and they came back to end the game 2-2. We knew them and knew their strength was set-pieces so it was easier for us. The game plan was to press aggressively in their defensive third and win the ball and two of our goals came through that, so it was the game plan that worked,” he said.
Gbagada FC got their win courtesy a hattrick by Balogun and remain fourth on the table with 19 points, one point behind second and third-placed teams Dino SC and Ijebu United, and four points behind league leaders Remo Stars U19.
The coach also explained that there’s no pressure to perform even as none of the Lagos teams are in the top three. He explained that with four points behind the league leaders, it’s in their hands to reduce the points to one when Remo visits in one of the league’s last three games and hope other results favor them while also stating that a Lagos based side will get to the finals of the TCC Cup competition.
