Gateway United Dominates Warri Wolves With Historic 4-0 Victory

Gateway United showcased their prowess in a thrilling second-half performance, securing a resounding 4-0 victory over Warri Wolves in a historic clash at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, during Matchday 13 of the 2023/2024 Nigeria National League campaign.

Maintaining their starting lineup from the previous draw against Solution FC, Gateway United entered halftime with the score level.

However, after an inspiring halftime talk from coach Samson Omiponle, the team emerged rejuvenated and determined.

The breakthrough came just five minutes into the second half when Odusina Sunkanmi capitalized on a well-delivered cross from Babatunde Damilare to open the scoring.

Shortly after, Babatunde Taofeek dazzled the Warri Wolves’ defence with his exceptional footwork, calmly slotting the ball past the goalkeeper to double Gateway United’s lead.

Damilare Babatunde, the provider turned scorer, extended the advantage further by capitalizing on a goalkeeper error to net the third goal for Gateway United.

With just 12 minutes remaining, Falolu Wasiu sealed the victory with a spectacular free-kick from 25 yards out, leaving the opposition goalkeeper with no chance.

This commanding performance extended Gateway United’s unbeaten streak to five games, further solidifying their position in the league standings.

Looking ahead, Gateway United will face Trade Safe at Mobolaji Stadium on Saturday, March 16, 2024, aiming to continue their winning momentum.

Coach Samson Omiponle expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, emphasizing their determination to maintain their winning streak.

He praised the players for executing the game plan effectively and vowed to repay the confidence placed in them by delivering more impressive performances in the future.

“An emphatic win it was. I said in Anambra that we would consolidate on the draw. The boys executed the game plan well enough, particularly in the second half”
