As the 2024 National Sports Festival officially begins in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the Acting Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Fagge, has called on Kano athletes to remain focused, determined, and motivated throughout the competition.
Fagge delivered the charge while addressing the Kano State contingent, comprising over 250 athletes and officials, who successfully arrived in Abeokuta after a 30-hour journey.

He emphasized the need for discipline and a winning mindset as they represent the state in the national event.
“The Kano State government has played its part. It is now up to you—the athletes—to write a new chapter by setting new records in Abeokuta,” he said.
In a related development, the Kano State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, had earlier briefed the team prior to their departure. He urged the athletes to compete with integrity and serve as exemplary ambassadors of Kano State both on and off the field.
Kano State will compete in 14 sporting disciplines at the festival, including swimming, judo, traditional sports (dame), gymnastics, chess, kickboxing, taekwondo, wrestling, golf, handball, football, kung fu, volleyball, beach volleyball, and weightlifting.
The 2024 edition of the National Sports Festival, a premier sporting event aimed at fostering unity and talent development across Nigeria, will be officially declared open today, Sunday, May 18, by the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
