Garba Lawal Reveals What Flying Eagles Need In Order To Defeat Kenya, Reach U20 World Cup

Sports247 reports that Garba is of a strong view that the Flying Eagles need a huge dose of resilience in order to defeat Kenya this Wednesday and qualify for the quarter-finals at the ongoing championship in Egypt, then go on to pick a ticket to the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.

Lawal stated, “The most important thing for me, as a group and as a team, is that the players must have a lot of resilience. Once a team has resilience in them, they will have a never-say-die spirit and then believe that they can do it.

“But, if the team doesn’t have resilience, when they are down, and they have to come back by stepping up their game, it’s going to be difficult.”

The left-footed former midfield enforcer, who was in Nigeria’s Olympic Games-winning squad at Atlanta ’96, added that the Flying Eagles can go all the way to the trophy at Egypt 2025 and equally pick a ticket to the Youth Mundial once they play Wednesday’s game with resilience and also get luck on their side.

Lawal expatiated, “I believe, with resilience, this team can go far; but it’s not easy to judge them at this level. When it comes to group games, you need luck to win the first game. Their second game was a draw, and now they have four points. So, now they are sure of reaching the second round.”

He concluded by giving Aliyu Zubairu’s side thumbs up for a job well done so far, but stressed that they must not take their feet off the throttle in order to keep winning until they lift the trophy.

“If you don’t win the first game, it’s always difficult. Now they have four points, but I hope they will go far, because a lot of other countries also want to be at the World Cup. These ones too want to be at the world championship, and I pray for them to succeed,” Chindo concluded.
