Gamondi Takes Charge Of Tanzania — Argentine Coach Returns To Familiar Ground Ahead Of AFCON 2025

Dar es Salaam – Miguel Gamondi has been appointed as the new head coach of the Tanzania national team, marking a return to familiar territory for the Argentine who knows East African football all too well.

After weeks of negotiations and delays, the deal was finally sealed, with Gamondi set to lead the Taifa Stars to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. His appointment, confirmed by the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) on Tuesday, brings both experience and expectation.

Gamondi is hardly a stranger to Tanzanian football. He previously guided Young Africans (Yanga SC) to the Premier League title and masterminded Singida BS’s triumph at the CECAFA Cup, steering the club into the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.

Regarded as a calm but demanding tactician, the 57-year-old Argentine has spent much of his coaching career on the African continent, with spells in Algeria, Botswana and South Africa. His record of developing players and building tactically disciplined sides has earned him respect wherever he has worked.

TFF officials believe his understanding of the local football landscape gives him an advantage as he takes charge of a team aiming to make an impact at AFCON 2025. The Taifa Stars qualified after a determined campaign and are looking to build on their growing reputation.

Gamondi’s first task will be to assess his squad, identify key positions to strengthen and introduce his style of play. The federation expects him to begin his first training camp before the end of the month.

For Tanzania, this marks a new chapter — one driven by experience, structure and belief. With AFCON 2025 on the horizon, Gamondi’s return could be the spark that reignites the nation’s football ambitions
