Humphery Gabriel’s vanung University returned to the Taiwan top flight college basketball the UBA with a 96-76 defeat in the hands of 2019 and 2020 champions Chien Hsin University on Monday afternoon.
The Nigerian was making his debut in the UBA after inspiring vanung to gain promotion last season and hit a double double scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds.
Vanung matched the former champions in the opening minutes of the first quarter until Chien Hsin University pulled away in the final 2minutes of the quarter to lead by 8 points 25-17
Vanung came out stronger in the Second quarter with -Gabe leading the line from Defense to offense and finished the quarter 24-20 to reduce The lead at half time to just 4 points.
The third quarter was keenly contested as Gabe continued to dominate and clawing vanung back reducing the lead to 3 points going into the 4th and final quarter.
With Gabe having some foul trouble and haven played almost every minute of the game coach Banisim sent his talisman to the bench and it proved to be a Tactical blunder as chien hsin took over completely and tore vanung defense apart To open a 20 points lead.
Gabe returned but it was only damage control as chien hsin ran away winning 96-76
Vanung will play NCCU the defending champs on tuesday afternoon Gabe thinks despite being a big test they would have learned from playing chien hsin which will prove useful in the next game.
‘ it was a tough game. we lost to better side as they were good from the perimeter scoring more 3 pointers than we do’, hopefully we can improve on our shooting in the next game as we play the defending champions and take the lesson from this defeat’ The Nigerian Born Small forward told journalists moments after the game.
