Team officials expressed strong optimism about the squad’s form, noting that the players are fully focused on securing the zonal title.
At Friday’s official draw held at WAFU headquarters in Abidjan, Nigeria was placed in Group B alongside Côte d’Ivoire and Benin Republic—an evenly matched pool expected to produce exciting competition.
Both Nigeria’s boys’ and girls’ teams were confirmed in their respective groups during the ceremony.
The African Schools Football Championship, organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), is a central component of the continent’s grassroots development framework.
It provides young, school-age footballers with exposure to elite-level competition and a structured pathway into future national and international opportunities.
This year’s tournament marks the fourth edition of the championship, following previous events hosted in Côte d’Ivoire, Togo and Niger.
Teams from the WAFU Zone B region—which includes Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin, Niger and hosts Burkina Faso—will vie for qualification spots to the continental finals.
The zonal championship serves as the gateway to the CAF African Schools Championship, where top teams from each region compete for continental honours.
CAF considers the competition a vital platform for identifying, nurturing and showcasing Africa’s next generation of football talent.
