FT: Chelsea 0-1 Everton – Tony Payne’s Early Assist Hands Blues First WSL Defeat Under Bompastor

Chelsea suffered their first Women’s Super League defeat under manager Sonia Bompastor and their first league loss since May 2024, going down 1-0 at home to Everton at Kingsmeadow.

The decisive moment came in the 12th minute when Hina Hayashi fired home following a precise assist from Tony Payne, giving the visitors an early lead they would hold for the remainder of the match.

Despite dominating possession and creating chances, Chelsea were unable to find an equalizer, as Everton’s defence remained resolute.

This is a first win in eight games for Everton and they owe their victory to their perfect defensive set-up. They crowded the right areas to keep Chelsea out and never let their energy levels slip, marking closely throughout and maintaining the required intensity.

Chelsea chalked up a mammoth 28 shots, 61 touches in Everton’s box and 18 corners, but could not find an equaliser.

This result halts Chelsea’s unbeaten run in the WSL and adds a note of caution ahead of their midweek Champions League clash against Roma, scheduled for Wednesday at 20:00 GMT.

Everton, meanwhile, will look to build on their victory when they host Arsenal in their next league fixture on Saturday at 12:00 GMT.
