Audu Emmanuel Shakamomodu, a part-time bouncer and security guard, stunned the athletics scene by clinching silver in the U-18 shot put event at the just-concluded Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) U-18/U-20 Championships in Abeokuta, Ogun State — calling the moment a “dream come true.”
Born in Edo State, Shakamomodu threw a personal best of 18.61 meters to finish second on the podium, representing Team Nigeria at the continental showpiece.

“Competing in the colours of Nigeria was a dream come true. I had to prepare myself mentally. I asked for God’s backing before the event, asking for discipline, courage, and strength,” he said. “I told myself, this is my time to shine. I’ve trained so hard, I cannot fail.”
Away from the athletics spotlight, Shakamomodu supports himself financially by working as a bouncer and event security personnel — a reality that adds even more weight to his remarkable performance.
“Tension soared during the competition and it was disorienting, but my family was my source of strength — both financially and morally. My mum and dad, and most especially my captivating and supportive girlfriend, Elizabeth, kept me going,” he added.
He also appreciated the Edo State Government and the Edo State Sports Commission (ESSC) for backing him during the Team Nigeria training camp.
“They really tried their best to support me, both morally and financially. I’m very grateful for their help,” Shakamomodu said.
He revealed that his biggest sporting influence is world record holder and world number one shot putter, Ryan Crouser.
“I look up to Ryan Crouser. He’s my role model. There are also other legendary throwers I follow,” he shared.
Looking ahead to the National Trials, Shakamomodu is committed to refining his skills and pushing his limits.
“I’ll go back to the drawing board and work on myself. I want to improve my technique and return stronger. I’m determined to make Audu Shakamomodu a household name — just like Ryan Crouser,” he affirmed.
