Augsburg of Germany midfielder, Ogochukwu Frank Onyeka has admitted it would be a thing of shame for Nigeria if the Super Eagles fail to qualify for next year’s FIFA World Cup.

He further pointed out that the large number of top quality players in the Super Eagles makes it imperative for them not to miss two straight editions of the elite competition.

Onyeka, who is on loan from Brentford of England at Augsburg, added, “The target is to win the next four games and make sure we have a good standing to qualify for the World Cup.

“It would be a shame if we do not qualify for the second straight edition, especially with the large number of talents we have in our squad.”

The former Faith Motors FC of Benin City, FC Ebedie of Sagamu and FC Mydttjyland of Denmark battler further revealed how all the players are determined not only to qualify for the Mundial, but they are also thinking of winning this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Onyeka, who has a goal in 29 games for Nigeria, reiterated: “We have given ourselves the task of working hard, because the most important thing is for us to go to the World Cup.

“As for the Nations Cup, we are also preparing hard. We know how it went last time. So, we are all preparing to do better this time. We want to win it this time around.”

Onyeka, who played 31 games for Augsburg this season, also spoke about the possibility of him making a return to Brentford ahead of the next campaign, but conceded that it depends on preferences of The Bees’ new manager
