It would be a quick return to Premier League action for Onyeka, who was sold by Brentford at the start of this year, as he could not get rejoin their mainframe after an unsuccessful loan spell last season at Augsburg of Germany.
The product of FC Ebedie of Sagamu, who previously played at FC Midtjylland of Denmark, has regained relevance under Frank Lampard at Coventry in the lower division and his efforts have kept them top of the Championship’s table.
Onyeka will now take additional delight from the words of his club’s owner, Doug King, who paid tribute to Coventry’s recruitment team for ‘building a high-quality squad’ that he is proud of and believes is good enough for EPL action.
King’s romance with Coventry began early November 2022, when he bought the outfit and The Sky Blues’ owner is now quite close to becoming an EPL club chairman, as the Championship season heads towards a thrilling conclusion.
“It has been a huge journey. We have done a lot in three years and we’ve had some great experiences. And here we are on the cusp of hopefully something great,” King told BBC CWR.
