Fortress Ladies and Gallant Queens have successfully retained their places in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship after recording convincing victories in the 2026 relegation playoffs.
Sports247 reports that the survival playoffs determined the two clubs that would remain in Nigeria’s second-tier women’s league, with both Fortress Ladies and Gallant Queens rising to the occasion when it mattered most.
Fortress Ladies produced the standout performance of the day, thrashing Chosen Generation Angels 4-1 in a dominant display. Favour Enodunwenben stole the headlines with a brilliant hat-trick, opening the scoring in the fifth minute before adding two more goals in the second half. Omosefe Ugbo also got on the scoresheet, while Mary Adekunle netted a late consolation for Chosen Generation Angels.
In the other playoff fixture, Gallant Queens edged First Mahi Babes 1-0 thanks to a first-half strike from Hope Jeremiah. The decisive 29th-minute goal proved enough to seal victory and preserve Gallant Queens’ Championship status after a disciplined defensive performance.
The results mean Fortress Ladies and Gallant Queens will continue to compete in the NWFL Championship next season, while Chosen Generation Angels and First Mahi Babes suffer the disappointment of relegation.
The playoffs brought an end to an intense battle for survival, with both victorious teams demonstrating composure, resilience, and clinical finishing under pressure to secure their places in Nigeria’s second-tier women’s football league.
