Former Nigeria Under-23 Skipper Erhun Obanor Completes Transfer To Saudi Arabian Club Al Ain

Saudi Arabian outfit Al Ain has finalized the transfer of seasoned footballer Erhun Obanor, the former Nigeria Under-23 captain.

The Benin City native began his football journey at the renowned BJ Foundation Academy, where his talents started to flourish.

During the 2012-2013 season, Obanor gained valuable experience on loan with second-tier side COD United F.C.

In mid-2013, the promising defender was loaned to top-tier side Bendel Insurance, showcasing his skills during an entire season before being sub-loaned to Abia Warriors F.C. until November 2015.

A major turning point in his career came in January 2016 when he inked a 3.5-year contract with Tunisian giants Club Africain.

Unfortunately, due to dubious transfer fee reasons, he was forced to cancel the deal and return to Nigeria.

Undeterred, Obanor continued his journey and, in April 2016, joined MFM F.C. on loan from BJ Academy. Seeking fresh challenges, he made a bold move to Germany in July 2017, signing with SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

However, despite his talent, he faced difficulties breaking into the team, and nationality restrictions hindered his chances of playing for the reserves.

The summer of 2018 saw Obanor’s contract with Greuther Fürth rescinded, leading him to Croatia, where he joined NK Rudeš.

He further honed his skills during two years in Albania, representing Kukësi and KF Laçi before returning to Croatia in June 2021 to sign with Istra.

Despite his determination, playing time was limited at Istra, resulting in a loan move to the Cypriot First Division side PAEEK in January 2022.

Now, with an impressive array of experiences across various leagues, Erhun Obanor embarks on a new chapter in his football journey with Al Ain.

Fans eagerly anticipate witnessing his defensive prowess and leadership skills on display in the Saudi Arabian league.

Will this move be the catalyst for a remarkable resurgence in his career? Only time will tell as the former Nigeria Under-23 skipper aims to make a resounding impact in his latest football adventure.
