DAR ES SALAAM — Karate players and referees in Tanzania are in for an exceptional opportunity this week. Shihan Ali Tarabeih, a former European Karate Champion, will conduct a two-day seminar on 19 and 20 September 2025 at Upanga Klabu Hall, located near the Indonesian and Japanese embassies in Dar es Salaam.
The event is organized by the Tanzania Karate Federation, whose Secretary Jerome G. Mhagama confirmed that the seminar will target both competitors and referees, aiming to raise technical skills and officiating standards across the country.

Though details about Tarabeih’s competitive record are still being confirmed, sources say he has won several titles at the European Championships.
His involvement, say officials, will include instruction in kumite and kata, with special sessions dedicated to rules updates and referee decision-making — crucial for local referees who participate in both national tournaments and regional events.
M’hagama emphasized the importance of referee training, saying that “fair judging is as essential as the skill of the athlete.” He added that exposing local referees to high-level standards will boost Tanzania’s performance in continental contests.
The federation is hopeful that Tarabeih’s seminar will leave a lasting impact, promoting consistency and excellence in technique and rules interpretation.
Karatekas from across Dar es Salaam and neighboring regions are expected to attend. There are indications that federation leaders may extend invitations to clubs in Arusha, Mwanza and Zanzibar to ensure broader participation.
