“Football Has Returned Home” — Ogun FA Chairman Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi Praises Team Ogun’s Triumph At National Sports Festival

Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, Chairman of the Ogun State Football Association and Executive Board Member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has declared that football has truly “returned home” to Ogun State following Team Ogun’s thrilling 4-1 victory over Team Kwara at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena during the National Sports Festival.

Speaking passionately to Sports247 immediately after the match, Majekodunmi painted a vivid picture of the electrifying atmosphere that filled the stadium.

“You can see it tonight — the stadium is packed to capacity. The people of Abeokuta and Ogun State are football lovers through and through. They came out in their thousands to support their team, and that kind of passion is what football is all about,” he said.

Majekodunmi credited the state government’s support for creating the conditions that made this success possible. “We must thank our governor for his unwavering commitment to sports development. The renovations to the MKO Abiola Sports Complex have brought new life to football in Ogun. This is a homecoming for football here.”

Reflecting on the tournament’s outcome, Majekodunmi expressed pride mixed with a bit of longing: “I am very happy that we secured the gold medal in the male football competition and a bronze in the female category. Of course, I would have loved for us to win gold in both — that is the dream we all pray for. But that’s football; it teaches us patience and resilience.”

He emphasized the broader significance of the victory: “This is more than just a win on the pitch. It’s a statement about the talent, dedication, and heart that Ogun State has in football. The future looks bright for our young players, and we’re committed to nurturing them.”

Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi concluded with a message of hope and ambition: “Football is back home in Ogun, and this is just the beginning. With continued support, investment, and passion, we aim to become a powerhouse in Nigerian football.”

The National Sports Festival continues to highlight the growing strength of Ogun’s sports culture, with the MKO Abiola Sports Arena serving as a beacon of progress and pride.
