Flying officers Cup finals: Edo Queens Are Ready

Sensational Edo Queens squad has continued their unbeaten run at the Flying officers Cup as skinny striker Emem Essien scored a devastating goal for Edo Queens that silent the voices of the hard fighting Confluence Queens of Lokoja Kogi State in a highly contested semifinal clash.

It was game where the two NWFL premiership side showed no respect for each other.

It was like the two teams were playing in the FIFA World Cup finals, as both teams fought like wounded lionesses throughout the 90 minutes duration of the highly intensive power packed game.

Both teams exhibited muscle for muscle, strength for strength, speed for speed, technique for technique as we saw in the technical crew a high level of technical input. But at the end God crowned the superior Edo Queens side the victory.

The FCT Sports Complex was filled up with football fans where over 60% of them supported the Godwin Obaseki girls.
Edo Queens FC is the only team in this competition that has not conceded any goal.They have played five matches and won all.
In the first group game, Edo Queens pip Nasarawa Amazons one goal to nil, then went to humble Lakeside Queens from Lagos 4-0, and also defeated Dannaz Ladies of Lagos 3-0.

In the Quarter final game, Edo Queens beat Sunshine Queens of Akure with a lone goal.

In today’s semifinal the girl also put up an impressive performance by beating Confluence Queens 1-0.

Despite all odds, against the Queens from the Heart beat State, they were consistent, determined and to win. One significant thing about this team is that they have a bond that keep them together which has worked in their favour.

Another reason why these girls should be commanded for this brilliant performance in this competition so far is that from the start of the tournament the players never gave any room for doubt, they had a systematic approach to each game not minding the opponent involve. Again many of the teams underrated the girls judging them from the outcome of Betsy Obaseki Women football tournament BOWFT that was done in Edo State done a couple of weeks ago, but they never knew that these girls a never say no spirit.

Despite the absence of the head coach in the Quarter final and semifinal matches, the players trusted the technical savvy of the other assistants who coach Mathew Wemimo handed over responsibility to.
One can understand in a clear terms on assumption of office as chief coach of the club why she said that she would be more comfortable working with the coaches he chose to work with.

From all indications her choice of combination is actually yielding positive results.
Again the unity that exists in the club is something commendable.

The players did not allow the absence of four of their teammates ho are on National assignment with the Super Falcons to affect them, they also did not entertain any fear about their opponents. They have always had self confidence believing that they have got all it takes to make it to the finals.

Sunday final game against FC Robo is a going be like history repeating itself. Because you will recall that Edo Queens and FC Robo clashed in Benin during the third place match of Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament BOWFT and Edo Queens defeated them 5-4 in a penalty shootout to claim the third position.

Also in the semifinal of the 2021 Aiteo Cup played at the FIFA Goal Project pitch Abuja, FC Robo also denied Edo Queens the final ticket beating us 5-4 on penalty too.

This Sunday final cracker between Edo Queens and FC Robo will be full of intrigue emotion and power show. But it will be out of place to draw conclusion because in the game of football it is not over until the final whistle.

For Edo Queens FC, they shown that they are mentally, physically and emotionally battle ready for the finals on Sunday.
