Flying Eagles will do well at the 2018 U-20 AFCON -John Obuh

Former coach of Nigeria’s U20 national team John Sam Obuh has backed current Flying Eagles handled Paul Aigbogun to succeed with his Flying Eagles team and has hailed his decision to stick with players who have experience playing in the domestic league.

The former Enyimba international handler has opted to invite players with league experience for the championship ahead of going for unknown and untested players from academies to prosecute the championship.

Reacting to questions about the team in a chat with Sports247, Obuh says playing in the U20 AFCON in Africa is a very tough and challenging competition but players playing in the league will be able to rise up to the challenge urging the coach to just seek little support to cover whatever grey area is in the team.

“Playing in the U-17 is way different from U-20. In the championship you need loads of players with experience and players who won’t fall o pressure easily and only players with league experience can give you that and I’m happy he has gone for players he can trust.” Said Obuh.

Some of the top players in the team include Ikouwem Udoh of Enyimba who is captain of the team, Effiom Maxwell of Enyimba, Abubacar Babawo of Plateau United Olawale Oremade and others.

Nigeria has won the African U20 titles seven times; winning in 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2005, 2011 and 2015.
