Flying Eagles hold Freiburg in six-goal thriller

Paul Aigbogun’s side held the U23 of German Bundesliga side Freiburg to a 3-3 draw in their first preparatory match played in Germany ahead of the FIFA U20 World Cup billed to take place in Poland.

 

The Nigeria U20 side who left the shores of the country over the weekend arrived safely in Germany on Sunday where they are meant to camp for three weeks ahead of the biennial competition.

All the goals in the game by the West African lads were scored by the foreign-based players in the squad.

After going behind twice in the warm-up match, the Flying Eagles fought their way back in the match through goals from Sweden-based Henry Offia, Tom Dele-Bashiru of Manchester City and Sogndal sensation, Jerome Akor.

The Flying Eagles are expected to be involved in more warm-up games during their three weeks stay in Ingolstadt, Germany before the commencement of the World Cup.

The World Cup is scheduled to hold from May 23 to June 15, 2019, with Nigeria drawn in the same group alongside Asian side, Qatar, USA and Ukraine.
