Flying Eagles’ Captain Daniel Bameyi Declares – Our Draw With Ghana Will Help Us Win On Sunday

Nigeria’s youth national team, Flying Eagles’ captain, Daniel Bameyi is picking positives from Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Ghana at the WAFU-B U20 Championship, as he believes it was a morale-booster ahead of Sunday’s second group match versus Benin Republic.

Sports247 reports that it took a late determined header by Mohammed Abdullahi to pull the Flying Eagles level, after Ghana went ahead in the first half, and Bameyi admitted that his side escaped defeat by the whiskers.

The soft-spoken defender went on to acknowledge that the Ghanaians were bound to be tough, considering that they are playing at home, then pointed out that being able to get a draw against them proved the Flying Eagles’ top quality.

Bameyi added, “It wasn’t a bad one. We were actually expecting to get an early goal that would help us win the game, but it did not come.

“We also knew it would not be easy, and we were expecting this from them, especially as they are the hosts.”

He concluded by affirming that Coach Aliyu Zubairu’s side is good enough to beat Benin Republic on Sunday and eventually go on to win the competition, which is being taken as a preparation point ahead of the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.

“They were playing in front of their home fans, but we also play to win, and we do not fear any foe. All the same, we thank God that we did not lose the match.

“Although we came here to win, we got a point that will help us in the next match. Ahead of our next match on Sunday, the draw with Ghana was not a bad game at all,” Bameyi affirmed.
