Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi has expressed strong confidence in Nigeria’s U-20 team as they prepare for the 2025 WAFU-B U-20 Championship in Ghana, calling the tournament a vital test ahead of the FIFA U-20 World Cup later this year.
Speaking ahead of Nigeria’s group-stage opener, Bameyi said the team is mentally and physically ready to face the best teams in the region.

“We have all it takes to succeed,” the defender said.
“We now need to focus on what lies ahead and work hard both as a team and as individuals to achieve our target.”
The WAFU-B tournament, which serves as a qualifier and preparatory ground for the global stage, features top West African sides, including Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Benin Republic.
Nigeria, who are aiming for a third straight title, are considered favorites, but Bameyi insists the players must stay grounded and focused on each match.
“We need to use this tournament to improve ourselves and understand where we stand globally,” Bameyi added. “It’s not just about winning but preparing for what’s next.”
Under the coach the team has undergone intensive training and tactical drills in Abuja and Accra, with the technical crew emphasizing discipline and teamwork.
Bameyi, who also captained the side at the last AFCON U-20 tournament, has been lauded for his leadership qualities.
His calm presence and strong organizational skills at the back have been key to the Flying Eagles’ recent successes.
The tournament also offers a platform for players to secure international attention and possibly European club contracts.
With strong team morale and high expectations, the Flying Eagles begin their WAFU-B campaign with eyes firmly set on the trophy—and a greater mission at the U-20 World Cup.
