Nigeria’s Flying Eagles secured an early place in the semi-finals of the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship after defeating Togo 3-0 in their second Group B match on Thursday in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
After a tightly contested first half ended goalless, the defending champions stepped up their performance after the break to record a convincing victory and maintain their perfect start to the competition.
Forward Abdulmuiz Adeleke was once again the star of the show, scoring twice in the second half to continue his impressive scoring form.
The striker has now netted four goals in two matches after scoring a brace in Nigeria’s 4-2 victory over Ghana in their opening fixture.
Abdoulaye Agbeloye completed the rout with a late goal to seal Nigeria’s second consecutive win and confirm the team’s qualification for the last four with a game to spare.
Adeleke’s outstanding display also earned him the Man of the Match award.
The victory takes Nigeria to six points from two matches, leaving Coach Abdu Maikaba’s side comfortably at the top of Group B. Burkina Faso remain in contention with three points from one game, while Ghana and Togo face an uphill battle to progress.
The Flying Eagles have now scored seven goals in two matches and are increasingly looking like strong contenders to retain the regional title.
Nigeria will conclude their Group B campaign against Burkina Faso on Sunday, with the result set to determine the final group standings ahead of the semi-finals.
With qualification already secured, the Flying Eagles will now aim to finish top of the group and build momentum ahead of the knockout stage as they continue their quest for the WAFU B U-20 Championship title and the lone qualification ticket to the 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
