Flamingos Set to Leave Ikenne for Côte d’Ivoire Ahead of Guinea Clash

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, will depart Ikenne for Côte d’Ivoire on Wednesday, May 20, ahead of their 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup second-round qualifier against Guinea.

The team, under the guidance of head coach Akeem Busari, has been camping at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ikenne, Ogun State, where preparations have intensified for the crucial first-leg encounter scheduled for Saturday, May 23, in Abidjan.

Nigeria will face Guinea at a neutral venue in Côte d’Ivoire due to the absence of an approved stadium in Guinea for CAF and FIFA competitions.

The Flamingos have enjoyed an impressive build-up to the fixture, recording dominant victories in several friendly matches as the coaching crew fine-tunes tactics and squad chemistry ahead of the qualifier.

Among their recent results were emphatic wins over Lakeside Queens FA, Nazareth Queens, and Generation Next, with the team scoring freely while maintaining defensive solidity.

Coach Busari initially invited 36 players to camp and is expected to trim the squad before the team’s departure to Abidjan.

The return leg of the qualifier is expected to take place a week later at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, with the aggregate winner advancing closer to securing a ticket to the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
