Nigeria’s Flamingos have been crowned champions of the 2026 WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup after completing a remarkable campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Togo in the final in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
Sports247 reports that the triumph completed a perfect five-match winning run for Nigeria, who finished the tournament unbeaten and without dropping a point.
Captain Harmony Chidi was the star of the final, scoring twice from the penalty spot. She opened the scoring in the 15th minute before doubling Nigeria’s advantage with another successful penalty in the 35th minute.
The Flamingos maintained their control after the interval, with substitute Oluebube Umejiaku adding a third goal in the 67th minute. Oluwakemi Adegbuyi then completed the scoring late in the contest to seal a comprehensive 4-0 victory.
Nigeria’s journey to the title began with a 5-0 demolition of Niger. Harmony Chidi opened the scoring before Awawu Bashiru, Ohunene Sunday, Mary Dunstan and Ayomide Rotimi completed the emphatic victory.
The Flamingos then produced one of the tournament’s standout results, defeating Ghana 4-2 despite playing the final half-hour with 10 players following Elizabeth Adesuyi’s red card. Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, Harmony Chidi, Mary Dunstan and Kaosarat Akanji were Nigeria’s scorers.
Coach Hakeem Busari’s side continued their perfect run with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso, with Mary Dunstan and Adegbuyi finding the net in the second half.
Nigeria then defeated hosts Côte d’Ivoire 2-0, with Adegbuyi scoring early and Pattra Oparanmegwa adding a late second goal to secure a fourth consecutive victory.
The final victory over Togo completed Nigeria’s clean sweep: five matches, five wins and the WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup trophy.
The title also provides an important boost for the Flamingos ahead of the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, where Nigeria will face Poland, North Korea and Puerto Rico in Group B.
