Flamingos’ Coach Bankole Olowookere Relishes Discovery Of Northern Female Players

Nigeria’s cadet female national team, Flamingos’ coach, Bankole Olowookere is relishing his ability to include some players from Northern Nigeria in his squad to the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, Sports247 reports.

Although the Flamingos struggled to reach the knockout stage and eventually crashed out after losing 4-0 to Italy in the round of 16, Olowookere is picking positives from what he cited as his widespread selection of players.

The embattled tactician pointed out, “This is the first time ever, to be sincere with myself, that I balanced up all the six geo-political zones in my selection. I eventually did that for this tournament.

“I’ve always been trying to look for Northerners that play female football, and I am happy that I achieved it in this squad.”

He then provided details of what he described as an all-encompassing squad that cut across various regions of the country and thanked some sports writers for helping him achieve it.

“We have about four players who are from the North. From the eastern side, we have the likes of Chisom, Sylvia, Okpara, and maybe six or seven of them in total.

“However, I can’t cover the whole country all alone. It’s a youth team, and we have to hunt for talents. So, I thank some people in the media who helped me spot talents,” Olowookere eulogised
