The camp of Nigeria’s cadet female national team, Flamingos, will open this Sunday in Abuja, as coach of the side, Hakeem Busari commences the last lap of preparations towards this year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, Sports247 reports.
Busari will have a total of 26 players at his disposal in the camp at Serob Legacy Hotel in Wuye, Abuja, with training scheduled to begin earnestly the following day, as the gaffer starts plotting strategies for the Female Cadet Mundial, which will hold from October 17th to November 7th.
The latest array of female teenage players that Busari has invited for the camping programme in Abuja ahead of this year’s global cadet showpiece includes three goalkeepers – Ifesinachi Iloh (Solo Wonders), Mercy Felix (Obosa FA) and Precious John (Pelican Stars).
They will be joined by eight ddefenders – Elizabeth Adesuyi (Pacesetter Queens), Esther Stephen (Unification Ladies), Chidera Oparanmegwa (Bayelsa Queens), Azeezat Oduntan (Robo Queens), Opeyemi Sunday (Nasarawa Amazons), Omelogu Precious (Tophat SC), Christiana Ogunbunmi (Soccer Talent FC) and Taiwo Abdulazeez (Dannaz Ladies).
Eight midfielders are also included – Kaosarat Akanji (Dreamstar Ladies), Awawu Bashiru (Confluence Queens), Mary Dustan (Bayelsa Queens), Muinat Rotimi (Nakamura FA), Kate Laniran (Espora Queens), Annabelle Olubajo (Savannah United), Grace Akingboye (Ghetto Tigers) and Eniola Abdulquadri (Unstoppable FA).
Six forwards complete the list – Adebimpe Kashimawo (Asisat Oshoala FA), Harmony Chidi (Bayelsa Queens), Mmesoma Uchendu (Ibom Angels), Istifanus Shavi (Youth Arise FA), Shakirat Sarafa (Remo Stars Ladies) and Chisom Chukwuemeka (Diamond Stars).
Sports247 recalls that the Flamingos defeated Bénin Republic home and away in the final round of the African qualification campaign to book a ticket to the global competition that FIFA launched in New Zealand in 2008 and Nigeria has missed only one edition, which happened to be 2018 in Uruguay.
This year’s U17 Women’s World Cup will be the tenth edition of the Female Cadet Mundial and it will take place in Morocco from October 17th to November 7th, with North Korea returning as the defending champions, after winning a record fourth title at the 2025 tournament.
