In addition, age cheating, inconsistent coaching and poor administrative planning.
According to Soniregun, Nigeria’s football has lost direction years back. “Financial constraints have also played a major role as many under age teams suffer from inadequate funding, leading to poor preparation for major tournaments.” he said.
“Lack of international exposure, and limited access to quality facilities. These combined challenges have made it difficult for Nigeria’s youth teams to maintain their previous dominance in Africa and global stages.”
He further express his concern on how to fix these problems, he urged the NFF to implement a comprehensive and sustainable football development strategy to revitalise grassroots football programs that has succeeded in the past in identifying talents.
“Strict enforcement of the age verification system through collaboration with medical, schools and sports authorities to eliminate age cheating.” he added.
“We must also invest in our coaches — ensure they are well equipped with modern coaching techniques suitable for developing young players.”
Stable administrative planning to guarantee consistent policies will improve funding and players welfare, including adequate facilities, equipment and support services.
Speaking ahead of the World Cup playoff against Gabon, Soniregun advised the NFF to ensure proper motivation, early camping and stable logistics should be priorized to create a focused and disciplined atmosphere
“The Nigerian players must remain disciplined, united and determined, realising the match represents not only a chance to qualify but also an opportunity to restore national pride.” he said.
He concluded by advising the NFF to encourage greater collaboration between the youth and the senior teams. Soniregun Micheal stated. “
“We need to allow younger players to gain valuable experience and build continuity for the future of our football”
