Finidi Thanks Nigerian Fans In DR Congo For Helping Rivers United Get 0-0 Away Draw In CAF Champions League

Rivers United of Port Harcourt head coach, George Finidi has heaped praises galore on Nigerian football lovers in Democratic Republic of Congo for helping his side get an away draw in their first match of this season’s CAF Champions League.

Sports247 reports that Finidi was all smiles after his side settled for a goalless end in their opening fixture against Les Aigles du Congo, but reasoned that it wouldn’t have been possible without the presence of some Nigerians at the match venue in Kinshasa.

The former Super Eagles’ winger further noted that his players were very cautious in the game and resorted to defensive play as their hosts came out fully at them with a lot of fury in the second half, which made the match tough to handle.

‘Finito’ took another look at the game and added, “It’s a very good result for us; but it was a difficult match, especially in the second half.

“We had to defend a little too deep because my players were looking at not losing the game. We had to defend, because they pushed hard in the second half to see if they could get a goal.”

The former handler of Enyimba of Aba, who was also a short term head coach of the Super Eagles, concluded by acknowledging the pressure of playing in such a high profile away match, hence his delight seeing the support his team got from some Nigerians who turned up for the game.

“We did a good job by defending very well and, in a game like this, where we faced away fans, it was good to see a couple of Nigerians supporting us.

“It was a good one for us, and we appreciate it. We appreciate the support we had from the Nigerian fans, and we thank them. We appreciate them for coming out to support us,” Finidi stressed.
