The People’s Elephant fought valiantly and held their ground until the dying moments when Hamadi Gadallah’s stoppage-time goal secured Ahly a slender advantage in the first leg.

Addressing the aftermath of a thrilling and dramatic encounter in which Enyimba secured three crucial away goals, Finidi expressed his admiration for his team’s spirited performance.

“While it’s unfortunate that we lost the game despite the fantastic effort from the boys, we must recognize the great performance they put in. The match could easily have ended in a draw if not for that late goal we conceded.”

Commending his players for their resilience against a formidable home team, Finidi George acknowledged the intimidating atmosphere created by the crowd but highlighted that it did not deter his players.

“While there are areas that require improvement, taking a broader view of the game, there are more positives to take away than negatives.”

Anticipating the upcoming return fixture in Aba scheduled for August 27, Finidi George conveyed his strategic approach for the home match.

“In Aba, the dynamics will be different. Our approach to the game will be distinct, and our aim is to secure a victory. We understand that it won’t be an easy task, but our players are well aware of the stakes. Having performed impressively here in Benghazi and with the backing of our home supporters in Aba, we are poised for a different outcome – a victorious one.”

He concluded by expressing his confidence in the team’s capabilities and their determination to triumph in the return leg.

“Despite the challenges, our players understand the magnitude of the situation. After delivering a strong performance here, they will carry that momentum back to Aba, and with our loyal fans behind them, we are optimistic about clinching victory.”
