Rivers United head coach, Finidi George, has expressed his satisfaction after his side edged Les Aigles of DR Congo in a nervy CAF Champions League encounter. The slim 1–0 aggregate victory ensured the Nigerian side advanced, though the performance drew mixed reactions.
Speaking after the game, Finidi admitted his players struggled with composure in front of goal but praised their determination to hold on.

“I am happy with the victory because it was not easy,” Finidi said. “We created chances but didn’t convert them. That’s something we must improve on. Still, the players showed grit and played safe when it mattered most.”
The former Super Eagles winger acknowledged that the squad is still relatively new, with many players trying to adapt to his style.
“This group is still learning how to play together. You could see the nerves in some moments, but that is expected. What’s important is that we are through, and it gives the boys confidence going forward,” he explained.
Finidi, who only recently began his managerial journey at Rivers United, said qualification was crucial for the morale of both the team and the supporters.
“For the club, for the fans, and for Nigerian football, this win was necessary. It shows that despite the challenges, we can compete at this level,” he noted.
He also assured fans that his technical crew is already working on ways to sharpen the attack and ensure the team becomes more clinical.
