FIFA WWC: Edwin Okon warns Falcons of South Korea threat, Dennerby names WAFU Cup squad

Former Super Falcons coach Edwin Okon has warned the Falcons to be cautious of the speed and tempo of their 2019 World Cup opponents, South Korea.

The Rivers Angels coach believes that with proper preparation, the nine-time African champions should scale the group stage.

“It’s a difficult group anyway, but at that level, I think if we prepare well, it is not a difficult group,” the former Falconets head coach said.

“We just need to prepare well against France and against (South) Korea. Mostly against Korea, because of their tempo. We need to play countries that are in that cadre so as to know where we belong before the World Cup proper.

The Falcons will open their campaign against Norway on 8 June, battle Korea four days later, before wrapping up their group stage campaign against hosts, France on 17 June.

Meanwhile, Falcons head coach, Thomas Dennerby has named his 20-player squad for the WAFU Women’s Cup.

The list consists of three goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders and seven forwards, with veteran Super Falcons goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi failing to make the squad due to injury.

Dennerby will hope to use the eight-nation regional tournament to intensify his side’s preparations for the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France.
