FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup: Janet Akekoromowei Eventually Lands In Falconets’ Camp

New signing at Benfica Feminino of Portugal, Janet Akekoromowei (aka Semenya) has eventually arrived at the camp of Nigeria’s youth female national team, Falconets at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, Sports247 reports.

The product of Asisat Oshoala Football Academy, who made waves in the Nigerian Women’s Football League (NWFL) with Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia and Bayelsa Queens of Yenagoa, arrived just in time for Thursday’s second group game versus China.

In her absence, Coach Moses Aduku’s team lost their opening match 2-0 to Spain on Monday, such that the squad will rely heavily on her presence to make a lot of difference against the Chinese on Thursday.

Sports247 gathered further that her late arrival was due to club commitments and complications in her travel plans, as she recently signed a major contract with Benfica, who recalled her to Portugal to finish her registration and immigration documents.

The deal came after Janet was named most valuable player in the NWFL with 13 goals in a single season and, although injury botched her initial move to Barcelona of Spain, she secured a massive deal at Benfica in July.
