Former Flying Eagles star Monday Odiaka has expressed confidence that Nigeria’s U-20 team will impress at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which kicks off on Saturday, 27th September in Chile.
Odiaka, who represented Nigeria at youth level and enjoyed a memorable international career, believes the Flying Eagles have what it takes to qualify from their group and potentially make a deep run.

“I have watched their preparations, and I must say they are looking sharp. This is a team with talent and determination, and I think they can shine in Chile,” he said.
The Nigerian side arrived in Talca earlier this week after a 12-day training camp in Santiago, where they tested themselves against strong opposition. They held host nation Chile to a 1-1 draw before defeating Australia 3-1, results that have boosted confidence in the camp.
The two-time U-20 World Cup finalists are lodged at Hotel Diego de Almagro and have already had training sessions at Estadio Fiscal de Talca, where all their Group F matches will be played. Nigeria will open their campaign against Norway on Monday, 29th September, before taking on Saudi Arabia and Colombia.
While Odiaka is optimistic about their chances, he admitted that their progress will ultimately depend on how the players approach the competition. “At this level, small details make the difference.
They must remain disciplined, avoid mistakes, and take their chances when they come,” he explained.
The former youth international also called on Nigerians to rally behind the team, noting that support from home often inspires young players to give their best. “These boys are carrying the nation’s hopes. With encouragement and belief from fans, I’m sure they will go far,” he added.
Odiaka concluded with a message to the squad: “The Flying Eagles have the quality to succeed. If they maintain focus and momentum, they can make history for Nigeria.”
