FIBA Women’s World Cup: ‘Come And Support Us In Berlin’ — Kalu Sends Rallying Cry To Nigerians

D’Tigress point guard Ezinne Kalu has called on Nigerians in Germany and supporters around the world to rally behind the national team as they prepare to begin their campaign at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin.

Kalu said the players have been working relentlessly ahead of the tournament and are determined to give their best on the biggest stage, but believes the support of Nigerians could provide an extra lift as D’Tigress prepare for their opening game against South Korea.

“We have been working very hard, and we are ready to give our best,” Kalu said.

“We need Nigerians in Berlin and those close by to come out and support us.”

The veteran guard also extended the appeal beyond Germany, urging Nigerians around the world to continue supporting the team as they represent the country on the global stage.

“We need the support of our fans back home and everywhere around the world,” she added.

D’Tigress head into the World Cup with growing confidence after establishing themselves as one of Africa’s leading basketball nations in recent years.

Nigeria have continued to make history on the international stage, including their remarkable run at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where they became the first African team — male or female — to reach the Olympic basketball quarter-finals.

Kalu was a key member of that historic team and has remained one of the most experienced players in the Nigerian setup.

The point guard has also enjoyed a distinguished international career, winning multiple AfroBasket titles with Nigeria and playing a crucial role in D’Tigress’ rise among the world’s top teams.

Now, she wants that progress to continue in Berlin.

Nigeria’s opening assignment against South Korea will provide an immediate test of their ambitions, with the team needing to start strongly against opponents capable of making life difficult with their pace and shooting ability.

For Kalu, however, the preparation has already given the players confidence.

The team has been working on its tactics, fitness and chemistry, with the players determined to make the most of their opportunity at another global tournament.

But Kalu believes the support from the stands could make a significant difference.

“We want our fans to come and support us,” she said.

“We are representing Nigeria, and we want everybody to be behind us.”

D’Tigress have become one of the strongest symbols of Nigeria’s sporting resilience, particularly after overcoming years of administrative and financial challenges to establish themselves as a respected force in African and international basketball.

Their recent achievements have also helped generate a growing following among Nigerians both at home and abroad.

Kalu knows that support will be particularly important in Berlin, where the team hopes to turn the energy of the Nigerian community into motivation on the court.

The veteran guard is therefore asking Nigerians to make their presence felt.

For D’Tigress, the mission is clear: compete with the best, represent Nigeria with pride and fight for every opportunity.

And Kalu’s message to Nigerians is just as clear: if D’Tigress are going to make another statement on the world stage, they want Nigerians in Berlin — and millions watching around the world — standing behind them every step of the way.
