Nigeria’s D’Tigers underlined their championship ambitions with a commanding 99–90 victory over Cameroon in their final Group B match at the 2025 FIBA Men’s AfroBasket in Luanda, Angola.
The result not only sealed their quarter-final ticket but also confirmed them as group leaders heading into the knockout stage.
The highly anticipated clash lived up to its billing at the Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda. Nigeria started brightly, edging Cameroon 28–27 in a tightly contested first quarter.
By the second quarter, the D’Tigers’ offensive flow clicked into gear, outscoring their opponents 32–16, before tightening their grip with another dominant 26–12 third-quarter display.
Cameroon, however, refused to go down quietly. Spurred on by Yves Thierry Ouwe Missi’s 23 points, they produced a ferocious fourth-quarter rally, putting up 37 points.
Despite that late surge, Nigeria’s cushion proved enough to secure victory in front of an enthusiastic crowd of 2,000.
Josh Okogie was once again pivotal for Nigeria, finishing with 24 points and earning the TCL Player of the Game award with a game efficiency rating of 22.

His energy on both ends of the floor set the tone for the D’Tigers, who displayed balance and depth across their roster.
Statistically, Nigeria’s efficiency stood out. They shot 56% from the field, including a remarkable 67.7% from two-point range, while also executing a 13–0 scoring run that stretched the game beyond Cameroon’s reach.
Despite Cameroon’s 39.5% accuracy from beyond the arc, their defensive lapses in the second and third quarters proved costly.
With this win, Nigeria topped Group B, showing resilience, composure, and flashes of the brilliance that saw them crowned AfroBasket champions in 2015.
The D’Tigers are aiming to reclaim continental glory a decade later, with a squad blending experience and youthful talent.
The victory also sends a strong signal to their potential quarter-final opponents. Nigeria has now registered back-to-back high-scoring performances in Angola, proving they can combine flair with efficiency when it matters most.
